San Dimas High Saints won the CIF-SS Mid-Valley Division championship, outscoring Monrovia 12-7 in wild, wet, and windy epic. All 317 yards racked up came on running plays. "We worked very hard," said Coach Zernickow, "I'm so proud of our kids and how they executed the game plan." What better way to celebrate our first time in the CIF finals than bringing home the title!

SDHS Students Have Physics Fun at Knott's
General School News

knottsgroup2009.jpg Forty six SDHS physics students had a physics fun day at Knott’s last week along with several thousand other physics students from all around southern California. The students timed rides, measured height of rides using inclinometers and trigonometry techniques, and entered contests related to physics and engineering topics. And they rode a lot of rides. I did too. The event is a great hands-on physics activity.

Knott’s provides workbooks with questions that students complete throughout the day.  Students collect data to answer questions about each ride’s acceleration, average velocity, and other physics quantities.  The students complete a lab write-up the day after the event using their collected data.

Images of the day are at: http://www.bonita.k12.ca.us/sandimas/elliott/knotts2009/index.html

News for Parents

Parents:
If your child is like most teenagers, they spend a lot of time on a cell phone or instant messenger chatting with friends and uploading photos, videos, and music to websites. They may have online friends whom they never have met in person, with whom they play games and exchange messages. Teens’ lives exist in a variety of places such as school hallways, part-time jobs, and friends’ houses. Now many teens also have lives on the Internet. And while most of these experiences are perfectly harmless, bullying has followed teens online. Online bullying, which is called cyberbullying, happens when teens use the Internet, cell phones, or other devices to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person. Cyberbullying is a problem that affects many American teens. Whether your teen has been a victim of cyberbullying, they know someone who has been cyberbullied, or have even cyberbullied themselves, there are steps you can take to stop cyberbullying and keep your child’s online experience cyber-safe.
