Superintendent's Message
rapkin.jpgSuccessful education models in the 21st century require effective collaborations. Partnerships between schools and communities, teachers and administrators, families and schools all contribute to a positive educational environment. We have ample evidence of successful collaborations that support the education and well-being of the children of La Verne and San Dimas.

Joint projects and partnerships with San Dimas and La Verne help the District and our cities flourish. Partnerships with the La Verne-San Dimas Educational Foundation provide direct support for our schools, and the collaborations with local service organizations such as the Chambers of Commerce of La Verne and San Dimas, Soroptimist and Rotary International benefit schools, children and our community.

Success also depends on collaboration between schools and school districts. Cooperation, information sharing, frank discussions about what works and what doesn’t facilitate a climate of excellence at each of our schools. Within Bonita Unified, our schools, administrators and teachers share their experiences, helping each achieve for our students.

Sharing successful strategies with our neighbor school districts, learning from the experience of others, having the opportunity to observe and hear first-hand about the success of others can be instrumental in helping us build a stronger, more focused and more successful school district. I am very pleased that Bonita Unified is taking an active role in collaborating with our neighboring school districts. Such collaborations allow us to observe and discuss the strategies our neighbors are employing, and give us the opportunity to share our methodologies and philosophy.

By sharing ideas, we hear feedback, learn what others have done, share our successes and analyze our challenges. We learn what we have in common and where we diverge. Most importantly, we interact, network and challenge ourselves, and each other, to collectively build on the successes we achieve as individual districts.

Parents:

They may have online friends whom they never have met in person, with whom they play games and exchange messages. Teens’ lives exist in a variety of places such as school hallways, part-time jobs, and friends’ houses. Now many teens also have lives on the Internet. And while most of these experiences are perfectly harmless, bullying has followed teens online. Online bullying, which is called cyberbullying, happens when teens use the Internet, cell phones, or other devices to send or post text or images intended to hurt or embarrass another person. Cyberbullying is a problem that affects many American teens. Whether your teen has been a victim of cyberbullying, they know someone who has been cyberbullied, or have even cyberbullied themselves, there are steps you can take to stop cyberbullying and keep your child’s online experience cyber-safe.
