Extended Lunch

San Dimas High School has introduced an Extended Lunch Period this fall.
The work completed by students each quarter determines if they will be included in a study period or an extended lunch period for the following quarter. Students that have not yet earned an extended lunch will be enrolled in a study period (period 5). This will give students a quiet place during the school day to complete homework, classwork and/or get help from tutors. A junior or senior who qualifies for extended lunch period may receive an off-campus lunch pass with written permission from their parent.
Freshman will be included in the study period for the first quarter of each year. Freshman can earn the extended lunch for the remaining three quarters this year. Sophomores, juniors and seniors earn their extended lunch for first quarter based on their work in 4th quarter of last year. The work completed by these students in each subsequent quarter determines if they will be included in a study period or an extended lunch period for the following quarter.
Students can earn an extended lunch by meeting academic, citizenship and proficiency requirements. A 2.0 un-weighted GPA with no Ds or Fs is required. Students with any mark of D must have a 2.5 GPA with no grades of F. For the first quarter, students must also have scored proficient or advanced on the English and Math sections of the California Standards Tests last spring or shown 5% growth compared to the previous year in each area. State test scores will not be counted in 2nd, 3rd or 4th quarter eligibility. Students may not have any grades of U in citizenship, class suspensions, school suspensions or Alternative Learning Center (ALC) assignments to qualify. Tardies and truancies will count toward a student's citizenship mark.
