Where do I find my assignments?Top of Page

  • In class, I write all of the day's assignments and homework in Google Classroom.
  • If you forget to write these down,
    • I send out daily reminds.
      • These are texts or notifications that come straight to your phone.
      • I ABSOLUTELY expect that you are signed up for these.
    • All class and homework assignments are mentioned in the reminds.
    • All handouts and assignment/project requirements will be attached to Google Classroom.
    • FYI--I'm a really nice person, and have a running feed (5 days' worth) of ALL class reminds over here ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<<<<----
      so please use them!!!

What do I do if I'm absent?Top of Page

  1. FIRST: Check your reminds.
  2. IF IN DOUBT: Check Google Classroom.
  3. AS A LAST RESORT: If you are unable to do either of these for some mysterious reason, e-mail Ms. Kocalis at k.kocalis@bonita.k12.ca.us for the work you missed before 6:00 pm on the day of your absence.
  4. THEN: From Google Classroom, print out (or write out on paper) and complete any worksheets or handouts assigned the day you were out.
  5. Turn your work in the day you return.
  6. If you are absolutely unable to complete your work during your absence, please understand that:
    • You will still be expected to take any quizzes and/or tests on days that you are in class.
    • You may not have completed work that would have helped you to be prepared for quizzes and/or tests.
    • You will still be expected to complete absent work even if you have already taken the quiz and/or test over that material.
  7. If you miss a quiz or unit test (you should know from having read your reminds or from checking ABI) make arrangements with Ms. Kocalis THE DAY YOU RETURN to make it up.  If you don't approach her that day, you will receive a ZERO grade on the quiz.
  8. If you miss a vocabulary test on the day you are absent, the test grade will remain a ZERO until we take another vocabulary test.  That next test will count double.  If you miss two vocabulary tests in a row, the first one you missed will automatically become a PERMANENT ZERO.

Remind (AKA: Technology's greatest gift to teachers, parents, AND students!!!)Top of Page

What is Remind?

Remind is a one-way text/notification/e-mail/feed service that allows me (the teacher) to instantly and regularly notify or remind you (students and parents) of daily topics, activities, assignments, and due dates.

Why should I sign up for Remind?
  1. Ms. Kocalis expects you to, and assumes that you have done so.
    1. If you don't have it, you're going to miss stuff.
  2. It will remind you of stuff you forgot to write down in class.
  3. It will help you to keep up if you're absent.
  4. Not having it is not an acceptable excuse in Ms. Kocalis' class.
How do I get Remind?
  • Via text (text the class code to 81010)
    • You will be texted the reminds.
  • Via the Remind app (download & open the app, and sign up with the class code)
    • You can sign up in the app to get texts, notifications, AND/OR e-mails, and you will have access to the running feed of reminds I send out.
  • Via the website (go to remind.com and sign up with the class code)
    • You can sign up in the app to get texts, notifications, AND/OR e-mails, and you will have access to the running feed of reminds I send out.

About MeTop of Page

Hello!  My name is Kelly Kocalis, and I am an English and drama teacher at San Dimas High School.  I graduated from UCLA in 1997 with a BA in comprehensive theater, and I also possess a MA in cross-cultural education.  This is my eighteenth year of teaching, and my 11th year as a Saint.  I love teaching here, and I think this is such a great place that I even transferred my own children here!  My eldest son graduated in 2016, I currently have a Senior here at San Dimas, and nine years from now, I will have another freshman!

I teach English 4 hours a day, ELL for 1 hour, and drama for 1 hour, but I am here after school directing the school plays for several hours after school every day.  That being said, I am MUCH easier to reach via e-mail than by phone.  Voicemail at SDHS comes to our e-mail, and has to be listened to through the computer's speakers.  If you leave me a voice message--because I have students in my room from 7:35 AM until 7, 8, 9, 10 pm--it's going to take a while for me to hear it. PLEASE E-MAIL!
